Back in the Galaxy.

The story of Hawesville’s favorite pizza place — then, now, and next.

A Hawesville Original

Galaxy Pizza first opened its doors in 1981 inside Vastwood Park, and for more than four decades it has been where Hancock County comes together — birthday parties, post-game celebrations, first dates, and Friday nights that turned into lifelong memories. Generations of Hawesville kids grew up on Galaxy pizza after ball games at the park.

After a series of ownership changes over the years, Galaxy closed its doors in January 2025 — and the whole town felt it.

The Robertsons Bring It Back

Longtime locals Steve and Karen Robertson couldn’t let that stand. Steve, who managed Bill’s IGA in Hawesville for nearly 30 years, had always dreamed of running a restaurant of his own — and when Galaxy became available in September 2025, it was the perfect fit.

The Robertsons went to work on a top-to-bottom refresh: nearly all-new kitchen equipment, new booths, new TVs, and a fresh lineup of arcade games — while keeping the original Blodgett pizza ovens that have been turning out Galaxy’s signature pies since day one. In February 2026, the lights came back on.

“We knew the community missed Galaxy.”

— Karen Robertson, co-owner
Fun fact: members of the Kentucky band Ole 60 worked shifts at Galaxy and rehearsed in the dining room after hours before the band took off.

More Than Pizza

Galaxy is a hangout, not just a kitchen. Rack up a game on the pool table, hit the arcade, or catch the Hornets and UK games on the TVs while you eat. Save room for the ice cream counter — sundaes, milkshakes, banana splits, and both hard-dipped and soft serve.
